The Frankfurt Book Fair is one of the world's most important events for printed and digital content.

During five days, publishing experts, writers and culture enthusiasts from all over the world meet here to network, negotiate and make decisions. On October, Frankfurt will be the worldwide centre of the media and publishing industry with groundbreaking contracts, innovative technologies and world literature to touch.

And the YOUCAT Foundation is also represented there. I asked Clara Steber, our Product and License Manager, why this event is so important for the YOUCAT Foundation and what the future of the publisher will look like.

Clara Steber, Product and License Manager of YOUCAT Foundation

Clara, what is your job at the YOUCAT Foundation?

My job is to keep in touch with our customers. That means both to the booksellers and to the end customers. In addition, I am the interface to our customers and our delivery. Otherwise, I am also active in licensing, which is also my main task. I inform them about our new publications as well as actions and events in which we participate.

Why is the YOUCAT Foundation represented at the Book Fair every year?

We like to come to the Frankfurt Book Fair every year because we can meet with our international publishing partners. This often involves day-to-day business, licence invoices and marketing, but also concluding new licence agreements.

What distinguishes your license partners?

The work on our license partners is interesting in that we not only give them the rights to translate our books, but also expect them to do something with our books and stand behind them. That is why there are also many publishers who belong to a spiritual community or a religious community, a diocese. And here the principle of participation is also very important to us. Our references and quotations on the margins of our books are perfect for this, but so are the pictures. So the official text remains, but the additional info can be adapted and adapted. So each country can make its own YOUCAT version out of it, which fits to the country and the culture and brings the readers closer to God in their own country.

Will the Foundation come back to the Book Fair next year?

The YOUCAT Foundation is now more than just a publishing house. The actual publishing house consists of Michael Schönberger and myself. But an even bigger area will be the new evangelization. For example, we are represented at the church's major international events and would like to motivate more and more people to form learning groups and deal with the teachings of the church.

What is your favourite YOUCAT book?

My favorite YOUCAT book is the DOCAT. This was my first big project when I started at the YOUCAT Foundation. I was able to get to know social teaching better and better during the creation process. I learned how important it is not only to go to church and pray, but also to become active.
